The relationship between elected democracies( all democracies are elected) and their electors is crucial and quite emblematic to observe.  Some rulers such as Charles 1st believed in the divine right of Kings and the right to rule without interference from the electors or the parliament. It happens in history sometimes when an elected non-hereditary ruler decides he wants to exercise authority without the interference of the electors, parliament or the House of Representatives. The Last person in history to become elected and then take on the divine right to rule without interference was Hitler. Do you know anyone working independently of the beat and breast of his electors and nobody really seems to mind what's in the food or the coffee?; hmmm? His favorite movie is Star Wars where the robots make the telephone calls maybe and he lives in Nebraska maybe.
