Mcluhan said that the medium is the message. He was referring to television essentially. His summary is celebrated for his brilliant brevity. It is a celebrated quote and is referenced often in brilliant graduate essays and news articles. It is not unlike one summarizing economies and markets as existing for communities; that "...the economy is for community." Anyway, the relationship between communication mediums and economies is a subject that was unearthed by Mcluhan's summary. The medium is not only for commerce as commerce exists only for the purpose of community. The medium is essentially for community. Communities need salt and light. Salt and light is not always best served by advocates of free speech where free speech may be irresponsible in terms of maintaining the community that makes such apparently free speech in a free Judeo-Christian society possible. Free speech must be responsible in respecting the general community that such speech serves. Free speech can be disruptive and possibly dissociative. The consumer, as affected by irresponsible free speech, may enter a movie theater and express his dismay in not being sufficiently educated maybe to digest such free speech and a few people might be sad victims of his dismay. It happens sometimes maybe in Arizona; so I heard on the community news but it is hard to demonstrate a legal nexus between the big box movies that everyone enjoys and the lone red head gun man who kills 24 people in a theater. No one has tried to prove such a nexus in the galaxy of smart Samsung and other several Samsung phones and I pads as built on Samsung technology in court.

But, you do have a choice as to what you can watch evidently. Quite like the Lord in the wilderness, the Lord also had to choose the word versus the barrage of temptations as offered by the Devil's free speech ( similar to the 300 channel universe today) with several ideas and suggestions as to what the Lord might wish to do with His emotions and various hungers. The Lord stood on the word( Matthew 7), put His self aside, chose to serve His Heavenly Father and then He went to Red Lobster(TM) for some fish by the water. Who would take instructions from anyone like the devil ( John 5:44, John 8, Genesis 4 for an emotional example only) that asks you to doubt the word of God to obtain acceptance from an abusive bunch of people who don't really love you and who don't want you to feel too good about yourself since they fear you might feel too respected in their version of life but human life can only exist for 100 years approximately? Man cannot live by bread alone and your cup may runneth over but your wife knows this. Give her a uh handshake and a kiss and she will follow the Aunt Jemima formula that includes baking soda just as a loving wife would. At the end of the day, in spite of various temptations to distract and dissociate a loving woman from her loving man with various instructions or repeated suggestions in both magazine( what if the magazines sent you a barrage of messages in the converse?) and Tv media on how a woman is to spend more time with her lusty old school girlfriend who can't wait to help you or her when it( the marriage or relationship) all falls apart, the most important thing is what happens around the family coffee table.
