Karl Marx did not necessarily write Star Wars( the movie) but his common sense theories on the fundamental nature of a basic market, the purchase of recyclable technology to alleviate human labor and on the fundamental nature of human creativity and our innate capacities for creativity as found in every individual demonstrate a Marxian sub-text in the Star Wars plot. Droids are like the automatic watch and the guillotine in that they reduce the need for human labor while individuals will maintain and trade their creative outputs including precious artwork. Droids cannot decide how to farm yet and improvise creatively in light of unforeseen variables but they can help a farmer. Another sub-text in the movie is "universalisation" which is not unlike globalization. Another sub-text is common human suffering in light of a dying or destroyed planet, a planet that was capable of supporting human life.

These observations are part of emerging discussions on the interplay between Technology and Politics and its History.
