Pure capitalism extols the virtues of markets that will work naturally without government intervention. But, governments will always have to intervene to make sure markets are natural, competitive, diverse and not abused by improperly motivated men with an uncivil agenda. Governments have to be involved to ensure there is civil society; without a doubt.  Markets can provide naturally if everyone is allowed to enjoy equal opportunity. Markets could naturally ensure that there is equal chance for equal effort. But, the idea is that a tall dentist is likely to have more clients because he is tall and his a dimpled chin. So, his community encourages them to sell coffee for a living because they are afraid of his potential.  The notion of "haves"
and "have nots" in capitalism is preached in theory only because someone believes it is important to have social stratification based on material wealth if everyone is given reasonably equal education and is genetically equal  regardless of skin tone. Educated people laugh when you have a color-line culture. It makes it evident that you did not get beyond the front cover of most of Dickens' books or those Indian Buddhist and Hindu
morality tales. But, you can have social stratification based on beer or tv brand. But, you know you are being judged as well for your choice of lipstick; you whore and for white sugar addiction.  You will be respected for buying the water-proof $1.00 brand of lipstick and for buying brown sugar. Choice is good.  If you buy an Apple Tv box, you will have more respect among your friends than people who buy Sony Led Tvs or Blackberry Tvs who are more respected among their friends; just like high school; remember? John Locke's theory on government provided a justification for chattel slavery that massaged the conscience of a trade perpetrated by various genetically black people(1/4 black etc) on other black people. Arguably, no full-blooded non-black person was involved in the slave trade after 1763. Slavery in America in the end was just black-on-black violence as proven by the motto E Pluribus Unum. This fact alone led to a dissociation between the European powers and their colonies as the Europeans observed the importance and ennobling truth of human equality.  Look at a European designer kiss the cheek of a well-dressed black person. This has been going on for centuries; 500 years. It is an easy human fact that is difficult to accept in the space of certain minds only. They also kiss and have had children for centuries also.  It is evident. Without a doubt, the U.S. civil war would have happened regardless of whether the cabinet was reading Keynes in addition to Marx as candle sticks, steaks and bread for one pence need to be sold and its just a drain on human capital if they are not allowed to benefit from their free or not-so free education. They delivered your mail during the war and preserved your genes in several black wombs that went west, further south to Cuba, back to some other French speaking Islands like Guadeloupe and then north.   Social stratification based on material possessions in having and not having is a self-induced frustration in social engineering. It has to be social engineering since it is not naturally capitalist. But, it is evidence of someone's desire for social stratification based on something other than race and education. It is a confession of human equality since lineage is not the basis of an egalitarian, democratic society. Human equality is the basis. If you are a meager sport fan or a meager student of history, you will have to conclude that every human is not born with equal athleticism. Some may run faster than those who may anticipate faster or catch with greater confidence. I don't really know but it's okay to think about more than just a black puck on white ice. They may change the pucks to a zebra stripe some day since that is more politically correct. There is a need for team work and everyone is involved. Who's your daddy; right? Whether its free or not-so-free, people study and work hard to graduate and this takes time. It is all the humility and submission you need to witness.
