Christ came to fulfill the Law and the Prophets. The old testament is a good yard stick in valuing scriptural integrity. There is no other authority. Christ quoted from it in fulfilling his purpose by reading Isaiah 61.

There might be a gospel of Barnabas coming along some day. But, after reading the gospel of Thomas, my only question is who wrote it and when?  The entire bible confirms the character of Christ and more precisely his character is confirmed in the new testament in all of the various letters. Someone will ask why there is a new congregation of adherents attending fellowship in what are called churches. It is precisely confirmation of the message of Christ and the promise made in the old testament concerning the gentiles.  The old testament message about the Gentiles is confirmed in the old testament prophets (Isa. 19:16–25Zech. 14:16). I would not argue with anyone about this but, Mary's(Jesus' mother) role and the role Mary and Martha is confirmed in the word. This is also true of Mary Magdalene. God does not ask anyone to deny his gender or to change it as a path to eternity. Read Matthew 19 and Genesis 1-4.  There is a feminine heart or spirit of God called the Shekinah glory.  The only other question is if the Lord was here today, would he attend church or a synagogue.  He never left synagogue and entered eternity as a practising Jew. There are Messianic synagogues today. The first adherents to the way and the refreshing summary and review Christ provided were practising Jews who maintained all of the Jewish customs and traditions. The intricate nature of communicating the truth of Christ and converting someone to the culture of Judaism was encountered by the apostles and they had decided to share Christ and allow the gentiles to model their culture around Christ with appropriate adjustments. Their effort was not to convert them to Judaism and the fullness of Jewish culture. However, you could walk away from the first four books of the new testament as a functioning Jew.  But, what you do on Saturday or Sunday or how you bless your meals or celebrate holidays is a separate question. Ultimately, Jehovah and thankfulness is at the center of each festival.  The wisdom of Christ is the wisdom of the Jewish prophets of the old testament.  Moses would not have shared the message of Christ differently.  It is the same message; a message of peace and community. Christ, no doubt is evidently the Messiah and if someone writes a gospel of Barnabas someday or purports to find one, measure its veracity against the entire body of scriptures.  An end will come when there are several new books alleged to have been written at some time in antiquity with a thread of agenda and virtually contemporaneous with the life of Christ and many will be shaken. Arguably, the Gospel of Thomas is one such book. But, it is left to the scholars to decide and to value its eschatological qualities. Personally, I am content with John 17. We are also promised that the Holy Spirit will guide us into all truth.  Unfortunately, the gospel of Thomas appears to have an agenda of some kind. The Lord never asked a woman to deny her femininity. He celebrated it. See John 4.  The presence of an agenda is absent in the other gospels including the book of Acts and Romans. Let us remember the Lord's word to Hagar and the testimony of Ruth. Read Isaiah 54, 44 and 46. God made suitable helpmates or companions for man. She is called woman and is beautiful.
