This just in: the Joint Force command has decided to order new boots for all soldiers that will enable them to survive a 10-12 foot jump from a helicopter that will not need to land for the soldiers to disembark.  They will be steel toed but will allow for greater agility.   With the current boots, the soldiers are likely to get a twisted ankle with a jump from that height although they are supposed to be able to do parachute jumps with their current boots. An entirely flat, running shoe type, sole,  that is able to withstand a nail with no raised heal and sufficient cushion with some flexibility is ideal.
