In some cultures, they confuse appreciation with money or they confuse attention for good things with actual money.

In some cultures, they confuse appreciation with money or they confuse attention for good  attitude and actions as recognized by others with actual money.   The discussion in such cultures revolve around social authority so in such an environment, you would be safer to hide your light under a bushel or to bury your head in the sand.  The King of Haiti was given a tiny toy ball to with which to play. Another boy was given the same, exact trinket in the same color.  The King of Haiti had a propensity toward wanting other people's things and property.  He asked for the other's boy's toy and when they explained to the King of Haiti that both toys were the same, he could not understand it.  He seemed to see anything he owned as defective or as if there is more value in what is owned by others as if there was something wrong with him although he was the King of Haiti. He was burned to death by his people as the King of the Damned.
